The official name of Sanju-sangen-do is Rengeo-in temple, and the structure is the National Treasure of Japan. This was established in 1164. The original temple building was lost in a fire, but the building reconstructed in 1266.The long temple hall, which is about 120meters long. "Sanju-san" meaning is "thirty-three".
People called this temple "Sanju-sangen-do" because there are thirty-three spaces between the columns. And there is another meaning. This temple worship the "Kannon". She can transform herself into 33 shapes to help people. Therefore it was called "Sanju-san"gen-do.
There are 500 "Senju-kannon" in this temple. The "Senju kannon" is one of the statues of the Buddhist deity. "Senju kannon" has 11 faces and 40 hands. One hand helps 25 kind of the world. "Senju" means "1000 hands". People called that "Senju Kannon" because 40 hands x 25 helps =1000.
And, there are a lot of Buddhist statue of National treasure which is basically from Hinduism in this temple. They have the name of Sanskrit. Buddhism is connected with Hinduism firmly.
