GEMS FROM VEDAS
AUTHOR : Ramu Rayapudi.
COUNTORY : INDIA.

Preface
VEDA means Knowledge in Sanskrit Language. There are four Vedas namely: Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda. The original knowledge is the teachings of the Vedas. They contain all the true knowledge. All human-beings ought to study Vedas to reap the benefit of the cardinal truths in their life. In the conditioned state, our knowledge is subjected to many deficiencies. There are four defects that a conditioned soul has: committing mistakes, subject to illusion, cheating propensity and imperfect senses. These deficiencies make us unfit for having perfect knowledge. I selected some of the quotes from Vedas and will explain briefly their meanings and the message they convey.

Today's Topic: Importance of Character
Be a person of good character. These two words have been taken from a vedic verse which contains a prayer in that we may never follow bad ways; always firm on good manners, so that we may continue to rise higher and higher in life and ultimately become great and in the long run our lives may become a shining example for others to follow; we may thus become immortal by our deeds. This is essential for a student if he is indeed keen to follow in the footsteps of the great personages.
eDo unto others as you would like to be done unto you' is the cardinal advice and every one should scrupulously follow this in life. A characterless man becomes notorious in the world and suffers not only infame, but troubles always and his life is shortened because he remains sickly and weak.
The western system of education has produced men and women of low character, as Justice Wesley Howard said, "The development of man has produced an underworld where boys are taught to be thieved and girls trained to walk the streets. The land of dope fields degenerates, harlots, pickpockets, paupers, and those who prowl in the grey of morning. In this region of the wretched, babies are strangled, the olds are abandoned, the sick neglected, the weak maltreated, the insane tortured, the young polluted, the woman lies in the confinement in the same room where things sweat and gamble."
How true this is, we are witnessing today every where. The reason is amply clear and emphasised time and again, because we have not cared to change the system of education, suiting our clime and conditions, as prescribed in the Vedas which is the Indian cultural heritage, but can also prove a boon to the mankind as a whole.

Message for the Day: Beautify your mental body rather than your physical body.
